Puregold Launches Teatro Panalo, Opens Nationwide Search for New Filipino Plays and Musicals

Twelve original works will be brought from script to stage, with selected playwrights receiving ₱100,000 each and two works earning opportunities for full-length development.
A new platform for original Filipino theater is taking shape as Puregold launches Teatro Panalo, an inaugural theater festival designed to discover, develop, and stage new works by Filipino playwrights.
Produced and organized by Wishbone Collective, Inc. and presented by Puregold, Teatro Panalo will select 12 original one-act works—eight straight plays and four musicals—for full production. Each selected playwright will receive ₱100,000 in financial compensation.
More than a competition, however, the festival is envisioned as an incubation program where writers can develop their work from script to stage with professional dramaturgical guidance, production resources, and feedback from live audiences.
Following the festival, one straight play and one musical will also receive full-length development grants, giving the selected works an opportunity to grow beyond their original one-act versions and potentially move toward commercial production.
A New Space for Filipino Playwrights
Festival Director Vincent de Jesus said Teatro Panalo is looking not only for strong material but also for distinctive Filipino voices and perspectives.
“We’re looking for authentic voices, fresh perspectives, and stories that deserve to be seen on the stage,” de Jesus said.
Through the festival's incubation process, selected playwrights will work alongside experienced theater practitioners to further develop their material before bringing their stories to live audiences.
For Puregold, the initiative expands the company's support for Filipino creativity into the performing arts.
“Through Teatro Panalo, we hope to be present in another meaningful way by creating spaces where people can come together, exchange new ideas, and see Filipino artistry come to life on stage,” said Ivy Hayagan-Piedad, Senior Marketing Manager of Puregold.
Who Can Join Teatro Panalo?
Submissions are open to amateur and professional Filipino playwrights aged 18 and above.
Entries may be written in Filipino or English and must be original one-act straight plays or musicals intended for approximately 35 to 40 minutes of stage performance.
The festival is open to different genres, theatrical styles, and forms, giving playwrights considerable room to explore how they want to tell their stories.
Adaptations, translations, and AI-generated creative works are not eligible.
Applicants must submit a completed one-act script together with a synopsis, logline, playwright's development vision, and other supporting documents. Musical submissions must also include demo recordings.
The deadline for submissions is September 11, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
A shortlist consisting of 16 plays and eight musicals will be announced on October 6. Shortlisted playwrights will then present their works to the Selection Committee from October 14 to 16.
The final lineup of eight straight plays and four musicals will be announced on October 16.
Those selected will enter Wishbone Collective's professional incubation program ahead of the inaugural Teatro Panalo festival, currently scheduled to take place from February to March 2027.
For de Jesus, the search could uncover stories that have yet to find their way beyond the page.
“Original stories have always shaped communities, reflected generations, and inspired change,” he said. “With Puregold Teatro Panalo, the next great Filipino play may be waiting behind an unopened script.”
