Oro Teatro Brings ‘The Discotheque Massacre,’ an Immersive Edgar Allan Poe-Inspired Show, to a Manila Nightclub

October 5, 2026

What happens when the audience is taken out of their seats and dropped straight into the middle of the story?

Oro Teatro is turning a functioning Manila nightlife space into a theatrical crime scene for The Discotheque Massacre, a one-night-only immersive underground theatre experience inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart.

Happening on October 17, 2026, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the production trades the traditional stage for a functioning club environment, where live DJ performances, immersive storytelling, movement and audience interaction blur the boundaries between spectator and participant.

The exact location of the private venue will only be disclosed to confirmed guests days before the show.

The Discotheque Massacre reimagines Poe’s classic exploration of obsession, paranoia and guilt within the pulsating world of contemporary nightlife.

Set inside a functioning club, the story follows a fractured individual whose growing fixation with an unsettling presence eventually spirals into violence.

Instead of presenting this inner conflict through a single protagonist, the character’s psyche is embodied by three personas: Persona 1, the Ego; Persona 2, the Superego; and Persona 3, the Id. Their conflicting desires and morals gradually blur the line between thought and reality.

The three personas are played by Jzar Tabilin as Persona 1, Kuki Zinampan as Persona 2 and Lee Lim as Persona 3.

Through live DJ performances and audience interaction, the club itself becomes the space where the psychological conflict unfolds. By bringing classic storytelling into contemporary theatre and nightlife, The Discotheque Massacre explores obsession, violence, guilt and the fractured human mind in an intimate setting.

The unconventional venue is fundamental to how audiences experience the story. Guests are invited to move, dance, interact and become part of the production. Up-close interaction with the actors means the audience's presence and participation help complete the world of The Discotheque Massacre.

The evening will also feature a live DJ set setting the atmosphere throughout the night, as well as free-flowing local beverages, including alcoholic drinks and sodas from local partners.

The production is directed by Nathania Kuy, who also serves as playwright and dramaturg. Jolly V. is assistant director and sound designer.

The artistic team also includes Jumac Macuja as set designer, Denise Ocampo as lighting designer, Oryo Rodriguez as photographer and Dana Lee as graphic designer. Oro Cultura serves as producer.

The Discotheque Massacre is produced by Oro Teatro, the theatre production initiative of Oro Cultura dedicated to developing intimate and experimental theatrical experiences.

Oro Cultura is a Manila-based, artist-led community and collective dedicated to celebrating Filipino artistry and identity through curated and immersive experiences.
