CHICAGO The Musical Returns to Manila in March 2027 for 30th Anniversary Tour

October 8, 2026

The Tony Award-winning Broadway classic comes home to The Theatre at Solaire more than a decade after its first Manila run.

Manila is getting ready for another round of All That Jazz.

CHICAGO The Musical is returning to Manila for a limited engagement from March 9 to 28, 2027 at The Theatre at Solaire, as part of the iconic musical's 30th anniversary celebrations.

GMG Productions, in association with Barry and Fran Weissler and David Ian, is bringing the Broadway classic back to the Philippines more than a decade after its 2014 Manila run. The return is particularly significant: CHICAGO was the inaugural production at The Theatre at Solaire when the venue opened in 2014.

Now celebrating 30 years on Broadway, CHICAGO has clocked more than 11,700 performances, reached over 35 million people worldwide, and been staged across 38 countries and more than 525 cities.

“There’s something especially meaningful about bringing CHICAGO back to The Theatre at Solaire, where it inaugurated the venue in 2014,” said Carlos Candal, CEO of GMG Productions, describing the return to the same stage more than 12 years later as a “real homecoming.”

Murder, fame and all that jazz

Set against the decadence of 1920s Chicago, the musical follows Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who finds herself on trial for murder.

With the help of slick criminal lawyer Billy Flynn, Roxie attempts to transform her crime into a media spectacle and celebrity moment. But she soon finds herself competing for the public's attention with fellow inmate and nightclub star Velma Kelly.

The musical features a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Ebb, alongside some of musical theatre's most recognizable numbers, including “All That Jazz,” “Cell Block Tango,” “Razzle Dazzle” and “Nowadays.”

The Broadway revival's original production was directed by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Tony Award winner Ann Reinking. CHICAGO has won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival.

Producer Barry Weissler also described the Manila return as a homecoming, recalling the show's place in the opening of The Theatre at Solaire in 2014.

Meanwhile, co-producer David Ian of Crossroads Live said the Manila engagement forms part of CHICAGO's 30th anniversary global tour, highlighting the combination of Bob Fosse's choreography, Kander's music and Ebb's satirical lyrics that has helped give the musical its staying power.
