Westerberg High is coming to Manila.

Heathers the Musical, the darkly comic stage musical inspired by the cult 1989 film, is set to make its Philippine premiere with a limited run from January 21 to February 7, 2027 at The Theatre at Solaire.

Presented by Bill Kenwright Ltd. and Paul Taylor-Mills in association with GMG Productions, the Manila staging follows successful seasons of the musical in London, New York, Melbourne and other international cities.

For those already familiar with Westerberg High, expect all the cliques, chaos and razor-sharp humor that have helped turn Heathers into a modern musical theatre favorite.

Based on Daniel Waters’ 1989 film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, the story follows Veronica Sawyer, a high school student who suddenly finds herself welcomed into Westerberg High’s most powerful clique: the Heathers.

Her new place at the popular table, however, comes with its own complications. Things take an even darker turn when she meets mysterious rebel Jason “J.D.” Dean, setting off a chain of events that quickly pushes teenage popularity into much more dangerous territory.

The musical features book, music and lyrics by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe, with songs that have become favorites among musical theatre fans, including “Candy Store,” “Seventeen,” “Dead Girl Walking,” “Meant To Be Yours” and “I Say No.” The production is directed by Andy Fickman.

Taking on the central role of Veronica Sawyer for the Manila premiere is Filipino performer Gerardine Sacdalan.

Sacdalan previously played Juliet in the UK tour of & Juliet, with her performance earning a nomination for Best Professional Debut at the WhatsOnStage Awards. Her other credits include Made in Dagenham in Concert at the London Palladium and Grease: The Immersive Musical.

Joining her is Louis Hearsey as Jason “J.D.” Dean.

The three Heathers will be played by Liberty Stottor as Heather Chandler, Jessica Ibadin as Heather Duke, and Lou Henry as Heather McNamara. Stottor has appeared as Jane Seymour in SIX the Musical, while Henry previously played Katherine Howard in SIX and received a WhatsOnStage Award nomination for Best Professional Debut.

The Manila company also includes Veronica Carabai as Ms. Fleming/Veronica’s Mom, Sophie Manners as Martha Dunnstock, Markus Södergren as Kurt Kelly, Beau Jackson as Ram Sweeney, John Gurdían as Ram’s Dad/Big Bud Dean/Coach Ripper, and Reuben Browne as Kurt’s Dad/Veronica’s Dad/Principal Gowan.

Rounding out the cast are Christian De-Gallerie, Ellouise Delooze, Caitlin Garcia, Alexander Howarth, Charlotte O’Rourke, Thomas Oxley, Tola Sokoya and Carys Taylor.
