El Fuego del Alma Heads to Makati for Special Benefit Run This October 2026
October 9, 2026

Porvenir reunites its original cast for eight performances at Art Directed Studio, with proceeds supporting plans for a regional tour.
Following a largely sold-out run, Porvenir’s EL FUEGO DEL ALMA is returning to the stage this October, bringing its Filipino adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke to a new venue at Circuit Makati.
Presented by Porvenir in partnership with ArtDirected, the production will stage eight special benefit performances on October 24–25 and 30–31, 2026, at Art Directed Studio, located on the Upper Level of Circuit Lane, next to Blackbox Theater at Ayala Malls Circuit, Makati.
The engagement forms part of Circuit Makati’s ARTOber celebration and marks a new chapter for the production as it moves into a larger, 100-seat performance space.
A Reimagined Production for a New Space
Porvenir will reimagine EL FUEGO DEL ALMA for Art Directed Studio, adapting the production to the architecture and possibilities of its new home while preserving the intimacy that defined its previous run.
The production will also reunite its original ensemble, bringing back the performers who first introduced audiences to the characters and their stories.
“This invitation gives us the opportunity to discover the production again,” says director and dramaturg Mark Mirando.
“EL FUEGO DEL ALMA was created in close proximity to its audience, so bringing it into a new space means asking new questions about how the audience encounters the story. More than extending the run, we want this version to belong specifically to Circuit Makati.”
A Filipino Reimagining of Tennessee Williams’ Classic
Translated into Filipino by award-winning playwright Eljay Castro Deldoc and directed by Mirando, EL FUEGO DEL ALMA reimagines Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke for Filipino audiences.
At the heart of the play is a struggle between the spiritual and the physical, between desire and restraint, and between the lives people are expected to lead and the lives they secretly long for.
Through its Filipino adaptation, the production brings these universal conflicts into a theatrical experience that resonates with local audiences.
A Benefit Run with a Bigger Purpose
Proceeds from the run will support the theater company's plans to bring its work beyond Metro Manila through a regional tour, potentially introducing the production to audiences in other parts of the Philippines.
“For us, reaching a larger audience also means looking beyond Manila,” Mirando adds. “We want this run to help us take the next step toward bringing the production to audiences in other parts of the country.”
EL FUEGO DEL ALMA will run at Art Directed Studio, Upper Level, Circuit Lane, Ayala Malls Circuit, Makati.
