“Sway” Hitmaker Bic Runga to Perform in Manila for the First Time This October
August 19, 2026
For anyone who grew up with “Sway” playing on the radio, appearing on movie soundtracks, or finding its way onto countless playlists over the years, this October brings a chance to finally hear it live in Manila.
Bic Runga, the acclaimed New Zealand singer-songwriter behind “Sway,” is coming to the Philippines for her first-ever Manila concert on October 1, 2026, at the SM City North EDSA Skydome.
Presented by Midas Promotions, the intimate, one-night-only concert will bring Runga’s extensive catalog to the Philippine stage, including “Sway,” “Drive,” “Get Some Sleep,” “Something Good,” and “Listening for the Weather.”
Three Decades of Bic Runga
Runga has built a career that stretches far beyond the song that first introduced her to many listeners around the world.
The New Zealand artist (Ngāti Kahungunu, Rongomaiwahine) released her first single, “Drive,” in 1996. Her debut album of the same name would eventually be certified seven-times platinum in New Zealand and included “Sway,” which became an international hit and remains one of her signature songs.
She followed it with Beautiful Collision in 2002, an album that achieved eleven-times platinum certification and gave listeners some of her best-loved songs, including “Get Some Sleep,” “Something Good,” and “Listening for the Weather.”
Over the years, Runga has become one of New Zealand’s most decorated musicians. Her accolades include the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll songwriting award, while she has also won Best Female Vocalist four times and Best Producer three times at the New Zealand Music Awards.
In 2006, Runga was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit. Ten years later, she received the Legacy Award at the New Zealand Music Awards and was inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame.
Her music has continued to find audiences across generations. In 2023, she embarked on a sold-out tour across Aotearoa and Australia celebrating the 20th anniversary of Beautiful Collision and was later honored with the Rolling Stone Icon Award.
A New Album Before Her Manila Debut
Runga enters her third decade as a recording artist with new music as well.
In February 2026, she released Red Sunset, an album recorded in Paris during the winter of 2025. The record marks another chapter for an artist whose songwriting has long been rooted in personal experiences, quiet observations, and an ability to turn intimate moments into songs that feel immediately familiar.
Her upcoming Manila show therefore won't just be a trip down memory lane. It gives longtime Filipino listeners a chance to revisit the songs they have known for years while also hearing from the artist Runga has become today.
And yes, for those who have been waiting decades to sing along to “Sway” with the woman who originally sang it, this is finally the chance.
