Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson return for a finale that’s equal parts terrifying and emotional, proving why the Warrens’ story has captivated audiences for over a decade.
Michael Chaves is back at the helm for The Conjuring: Last Rites, the final chapter in a franchise that’s been giving us nightmares for over a decade. From The Curse of La Llorona to The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Nun II, Chaves has proven he knows how to make your skin crawl—and here, he’s tasked with closing the book on Ed and Lorraine Warren’s story.
So, does it stick the landing?
A Familiar Darkness, Amplified
Last Rites is every bit as intimidating as its predecessors. An ominous and foreboding atmosphere might just send a chill down your spine from the sound of the title slowly manifesting on screen. Even the promotional posters did a great job letting you know what you’re in for.
The Warrens’ Final Stand
Central to The Conjuring films has always been the chemistry and conviction of Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, and here they give perhaps their most emotionally charged performances to date.
With a more personal story and even higher stakes, Farmiga returns as Lorraine Warren, a medium who feels more cursed than gifted. Wilson is back as Ed Warren, a demonologist whose faith shields others from danger. Newcomer Mia Tomlinson as Judy Warren brings emotional depth and heart to the story—and she’s not the only surprise return.

Spectacle and Scares
Special effects are the meat and bones of any supernatural horror, and Last Rites delivers some of the best. Uneasy quiet moments, otherworldly visuals, and the booming sounds of violent ghosts will make you feel unsafe everywhere—even outside. The scares are so aggressive you’ll feel you can’t catch a break.
That said, for all its amazing visuals and sound design, the film isn’t without flaws. The sheer number of jump scares can make things feel like a theme park ride—though still a fun one. Certain plot points, like the ghost’s actual motivations that were never fully addressed.
As with previous entries, the movie is “based on a true story,” taking creative liberties while adapting the events. One of the franchise’s most chilling traditions returns: showing the real-life photos from the cases, beckoning you to do your own investigation.

Verdict: ★★★★☆
The quieter moments between Ed, Lorraine, and Judy are what stick with you. They remind you that at its core, this franchise has always been about family and faith as much as it’s been about demons and possessions.
Nevertheless, The Conjuring: Last Rites is the franchise’s greatest hits packaged into a two-hour film. It’s a blast to watch with an audience—full of shared gasps, giggles, and screams. A perfect horror night pick with family and friends.
The Conjuring: Last Rites is now showing in all cinemas.
