Areté announces musical inspired by the iconic songs of OPM band, Wolfgang

The music of Wolfgang, one of the Philippines’  legendary rock bands, is taking on a new life — this time on stage.

After years in the making, Si Faust After Goethe, a sung-through Filipino musical featuring the songs of Wolfgang, will finally open this November at the Doreen Black Box, Areté, Ateneo de Manila University and produced by Ateneo's creative and innovation hub, Areté.

Created by Basti Artadi and Nelsito Gomez, the production, is inspired by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s classic tragedy Faust — but reimagined through a distinctly Filipino lens and infused with Wolfgang’s powerful rock sound.

For Basti Artadi, Wolfgang’s frontman and one of the songwriters, the project represents a long-held dream. In a heartfelt social media post, he shared:

“So many years, so many attempts, so many times I almost quit this ultimate dream of mine — to have the band’s music as part of a musical. Today I spent the afternoon with a young, enthusiastic cast and crew to start the first steps toward getting this thing from dream to reality. After what I saw today, I don’t think this production could be in better hands.”
