LAMAN-LOOB: Mad Child Productions Brings Double Horror Thrill This Halloween Season
October 7, 2025

This Halloween season, Mad Child Productions invites theatergoers to face their fears and listen closely—because in LAMAN-LOOB: Dalawang Dulang Katatakutan, every sound tells a story.

The twin-bill production presents two original works of horror—Talistis by Rafael Jimenez and Taong Seda by Iago Guballa, the latter a recipient of the 2024 Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature for his piece The Echoist. Rather than relying on visuals and spectacle, this year’s LAMAN-LOOB highlights the sonar side of storytelling—where voice acting, live scoring, and foley design combine to create a theater experience that is as chilling as it is intimate.

Beneath the Noise: The Dark World of Talistis

In Talistis, playwright Rafael Jimenez plunges the audience into the gritty underbelly of Metro Manila. The story follows two low-ranking policemen who stumble upon the corpse of a child along the PNR tracks in Pandacan. When one officer sees the case as his ticket to promotion, their pursuit for justice—or ambition—drags them deep into the shadows of corruption and crime.

Directed by Monty Uy with sound direction by Alyssa Clare, Talistis stars Vino Mabalot and Adriane Ungriano, who bring to life a story that blurs the line between justice and obsession.

Threads of Terror: The Haunting of Taong Seda

Iago Guballa’s Taong Seda, directed by Zoë de Ocampo with sound design by Uriel Tibayan, offers a more psychological descent. Set within the quiet confines of a tailor’s shop, it tells the story of a reclusive young woman and her eccentric grandfather whose peaceful isolation is disturbed when a former classmate arrives to have her wedding dress made. What begins as a simple commission unravels into a reckoning of memory and trauma—proving that some wounds can’t simply be stitched shut.

Actors Don Melvin Boongaling and Senanda lead the haunting tale, weaving a performance that lingers long after the final note fades.

Fear in Full Sound

True to Mad Child Productions’ reputation for experimental storytelling, LAMAN-LOOB transforms the theater into a space where audiences hear fear instead of seeing it. The show’s innovative use of live scoring and foley invites spectators to imagine the horrors unfolding in their mind’s eye—proof that sometimes, what’s unseen is far more terrifying.
