Conrad Ricamora to Lead Philippine Production of A Chorus Line by Theatre Group Asia
October 18, 2025

MANILA, Philippines — Theatre Group Asia (TGA) has officially announced that Tony and two-time Grammy nominee Conrad Ricamora will star as Zach in the highly anticipated Philippine staging of the Broadway classic A Chorus Line.

This marks Ricamora’s first-ever performance in the Philippines—a long-awaited homecoming for the Filipino-American Hollywood, TV, and Broadway actor whose career has spanned acclaimed productions like Here Lies Love, The King and I, and How to Get Away with Murder.

A Homecoming and a Full-Circle Moment

“Performing in the Philippines for the first time is incredibly meaningful for me because it’s my father’s homeland,” Ricamora shared. “It feels like a kind of homecoming—a chance to connect with a part of my heritage that I’ve always carried in my heart.”

Ricamora, who will portray Zach—the director and choreographer leading the story’s high-stakes audition—spoke about how A Chorus Line resonates deeply with him. “I’ve always loved A Chorus Line because it celebrates the raw, vulnerable truth of being a performer. To step into Zach’s shoes, especially in its golden year, feels like a full-circle moment.”

He adds, “The show’s core question—‘Who am I, and why do I dance?’—is universal. We’re all just trying to be chosen for who we really are.”

A Star of Global Stages

Ricamora’s Broadway credits include the recent Tony-winning play Oh, Mary!—for which he earned his first Tony nomination in 2025—as well as The King and I (which garnered him a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album), Soft Power, and Little Shop of Horrors.

He also starred as Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino in Here Lies Love, a role he originated Off-Broadway in 2013 and reprised on Broadway in 2023 with an all-Filipino cast.

Beyond theater, Ricamora gained international recognition for his role as Oliver in ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder and appeared in Hulu’s Fire Island and How To Die Alone. He is also part of the upcoming The Devil Wears Prada sequel.

A Dream Collaboration

TGA’s Overall Artistic and Creative Director Clint Ramos, himself a Tony winner, expressed excitement over Ricamora’s casting:

“We are very proud and overjoyed to have someone of Conrad’s caliber and experience in our staging of A Chorus Line. He brings both the gravitas and raw fragility Zach requires. He’s a quintessential triple threat who wears his heritage and identity with pride—which is exactly what TGA stands for.”

Meanwhile, the production’s director and choreographer, Emmy winner Karla Puno Garcia, noted Ricamora’s powerful stage presence:

A Chorus Line dives deep into the emotional psyche of performers, and Conrad’s presence will guide audiences through that journey. He has the intensity and heart that this story demands.”

Celebrating 50 Years of a Broadway Landmark

First premiering in 1975, A Chorus Line revolutionized Broadway with its intimate portrayal of dancers’ hopes, sacrifices, and personal stories. The musical went on to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score.

As it celebrates its 50th anniversary, TGA’s production aims to honor that legacy while reintroducing the show’s timeless message to a new generation of Filipino theatergoers.
