Ateneo ENTABLADO Ignites the Stage with “MAKIBAKA! Huwag…”

October 21, 2025

“Gising na ba kayo?!”

This is the rallying cry of Ateneo ENTABLADO as it returns to the stage with MAKIBAKA! Huwag…, a stirring twinbill production that challenges audiences to wake up, resist complacency, and take a stand.

Opened on October 8 and running until October 25, 2025 at the Rizal Mini Theater, Ateneo de Manila University, MAKIBAKA! Huwag… brings together two acclaimed works of Philippine theatre — Paraisong Parisukat by Orlando Nadres and Pilipinas Kong Mahal With All the Overcoat by Eljay Castro Deldoc — to explore power, conformity, and the enduring Filipino spirit of defiance.

Two Stories, One Struggle

Directed by Jethro Tenorio, with Joy Delos Santos as co-director, the twinbill captures the complexity of awakening amid oppression.

In Paraisong Parisukat, audiences will meet characters confined in their own “boxes” — both literal and metaphorical — as they grapple with illusion, faith, and freedom. The cast includes:

Luke Mavrick Ang and Ranz Aganan as Al

Chantei Cortez, Leoraine de la Cruz, and Allana Joy Boncavil as Isya

Bless S. Tamayo and Fatima Angela Santos as Pastora

Tini Flores and Camille Balagtas as Belen

Meanwhile, Pilipinas Kong Mahal With All the Overcoat unfolds as a satirical mirror of bureaucracy and patriotism, where the everyday Filipino faces absurd systems with both humor and exhaustion. The cast features:

Ron Abustan and Rick Pingol as Kliyente 1

Yuri Dolorfino and Gabriel Nathan Pacardo as Kliyente 2

Czrille Canonigo and Ronabelle Saunders as Kliyente 3

Rick Pingol (double cast) and Axel Limjoco as Ambet

Kyle Tano and Uriel Dolorfino as Nato

Theatre as Protest, Theatre as Awakening

MAKIBAKA! Huwag… is more than a show — it’s a statement. Through the lens of these plays, ENTABLADO continues its legacy of politically engaged theatre that confronts, provokes, and inspires. “Hindi na sapat ang tahimik na pagtitiis — panahon na para isigaw ang tama. Tayo ang tinig. Tayo ang laban,” the group declares.

The production is presented in partnership with Tunog at Liwanag sa Teatro Inc., with support from Panasonic, Gibi Shoes, and Susi ng Tayabas, and media partners HEIGHTS Ateneo, Together Manila, Zoom Ateneo, and Matanglawin Ateneo.
