Fresh from the successful opening of The Bodyguard The Musical, Rockwell and 9 Works Theatrical are set to wrap up the year with another major production—this time, one that perfectly captures the warmth of the holiday season. The much-loved classic A Christmas Carol The Musical will open at the Proscenium Theater in Rockwell, Makati, beginning November 2025.

A Holiday Tradition Comes to Manila

Adapted from the timeless novel by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a wealthy but cold-hearted man who dismisses Christmas as nothing but humbug. On one fateful Christmas Eve, Scrooge is confronted by the spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, who guide him through a transformative journey of reflection, compassion, and redemption.

This Philippine staging will be directed by Robbie Guevara, Artistic Director of 9 Works Theatrical (The Bodyguard The Musical, Liwanag sa Dilim). The musical boasts the creative team of composer Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Little Shop of Horrors), lyricist Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Once on This Island), and book writers Mike Ockrent and Ahrens—giving life to Dickens’ iconic story with rousing music, heartfelt lyrics, and dazzling stagecraft.

Breathing New Life into a Classic

First premiered in New York in the 1990s and staged annually for nearly a decade at Madison Square Garden, this musical version of A Christmas Carol has become a beloved holiday favorite around the world. Its arrival in Manila marks not only a theatrical milestone but also a heartwarming addition to the city’s Christmas festivities.

Rockwell’s Proscenium Theater: A New Stage for Holiday Magic

The production will be staged at the new Proscenium Theater, Rockwell’s state-of-the-art performance venue in Makati. Following the success of The Bodyguard The Musical, A Christmas Carol becomes the second large-scale production to light up its stage—solidifying Rockwell as a new cultural hub in the city.
