DILAAB Returns This October: A Candlelit Tribute to the Timeless Songs of APO Hiking Society
October 5, 2025

When the lights dim and the first strings begin to hum, a quiet magic fills the air. The flicker of hundreds of candles transforms the room into something special.
This October, that same gentle glow returns as DILAAB: A Candlelit Tribute to Filipino Music once again lights up YSpace at the Yuchengco Museum for two special evenings, October 11 and 12, featuring the beloved music of the APO Hiking Society.
Honoring a Legacy of Friendship, Harmony, and Heart
For generations, the songs of Jim Paredes, Boboy Garrovillo, and the late Danny Javier have lived deep in the Filipino soul. Whether sung at karaoke nights, weddings, or reunions, APO’s music has always felt like home — familiar, hopeful, and honest.
Now, the PIMA Guitar Quartet reimagines these classics under candlelight. Expect intimate renditions of “Pumapatak ang Ulan,” “Awit ng Barkada,” “Kaibigan,” “Ewan,” “Batang-Bata Ka Pa,” “Show Me a Smile,” “When I Met You,” and “Panalangin” — stripped down yet emotionally rich, revealing new colors beneath their melodies.
Producer Irvinne Redor of Sanghimig Performing Arts Events & Travel describes the concert as a spark in the dark:
“Dilaab means blaze or passionate flame. With every performance, we hope to spark that light within people — a mix of warmth, memory, and feeling that stays even after the candles are out.”
Since its first successful shows in March 2025, DILAAB has become more than a concert series — it’s an experience of shared stillness and connection.
Each edition celebrates Filipino music through a new lens. The debut featured a string quartet tribute to Ben&Ben, followed by a rondalla performance for Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino in July, and a tribute to songwriter Trina Belamide in August.
Each show invites audiences to rediscover songs they know by heart — but presented in a way that feels brand new, intimate, and deeply personal.

Part of Design Week Philippines 2025
This October’s edition holds added significance as DILAAB officially becomes part of Design Week Philippines 2025, organized by the Design Center of the Philippines.
With this year’s theme, “Towards Ginhawa,” the festival celebrates connection and collective well-being — values that align seamlessly with DILAAB’s essence. The concert encourages audiences to slow down, breathe, and be fully present — a rare pause in a world that moves too fast.
A Multisensory Experience of Light and Memory
DILAAB’s charm lies in its simplicity — yet everything is crafted with intention. The soft glow of hundreds of candles. The scent that lingers in the air. The warmth of live instruments resonating through the gallery.
A highlight for many attendees is the postcard exchange, where guests write reflections inspired by the music and later receive a note from another audience member. It’s a quiet reminder that in shared spaces, we all carry stories worth passing on.
More than a performance, DILAAB is an invitation: to listen not just with your ears, but with your heart.
